Health Blog

IN health we were set a task that required us to choose a topic and choose 6 questions.  Our success set criteria were the highest one we could possibly do. The topic I choose was DIscrimination and racism.

First, we had to choose our 6 big questions. Once we chose the questions we had to make a doc answering the questions relating to the topic which was Discrimination and Racism.

From there we answered every question,  we choose to do this because our country has been through racism, we have learned strategies to deal with this problem.

I worked well with others because we shared ideas.

Discrimination And Racism

Why is discrimination and racisim harmful?

Discirimination and racism IS harmful, because people that have different races are being made fun of for things that they have to do or what  they look like because of their race, and it  affects them and makes them extremely insecure and sometimes it makes them anxious to the point that they get headaches, increased heart rate, sweating, trembling and muscle tension.

What influences people to do it?

Back in the past, children were taught whatever their society and culture has learnt about such as beauty standards, skin colours, Appearances, what’s normal and abnormal, etc). Social media could also be the cause of racism, back in 2017 racism was normalized for a whole year with a president in America running a hate-filled platform that denigrated and demeaned anyone who was not a white male. Children under the influence of social media.

Who can’t and who can?

Personally I don’t think that anyone should be racist against each other. Each race is different and has different quirks so I don’t think anyone can be racist to each other.

What needs to change?

How the rest of the world views different cultures and races. Standing up against discrimination by peacful protests, donatios for people who are being tormented.

What assumptions are made?

There are many assumptions made about each race like; Black people being criminals, and Asians being the reason of covid 19 just like how trump calls it china virus.

What are the common beauty standards around the world?

Since the early 2000s the beauty standards have gradually changed. Now we need to have a flat stomach, “healthy” skin, Large breasts + butt, thigh gap etc).

A way to manage racism.

We should spread awareness. Employers can raise awareness by giving materials to educate employees about the culture of racism and the history of different races, in addition to having talks. The majority of people are oblivious of racial injustice and the unintentional comments they make towards their BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) coworkers.

Gloriavale A Womens Place.

What are the traditional roles of men, women, and children that are shown in this community? Men would do construction.

At what age are the members of Gloriavale expected to begin to work?  They are expected to start working at the age of 1-2.

What role does religion play in the lives of Gloriavale members? You only go to school until year 10 and you begin to work as soon as you start walking.

Do you think people in Gloriavale are happy? why and why not. I am personally not sure about this because people in there probably have different preferences.

Do you think people in Gloriavale experience Human rights? I think that people in Gloriavale don't have as many rights as normal people but you gain more rights as you get older.

Would you be happy to live in a community like Gloriavale? Why and why not? Personally, I don't think so because I want to have my own choices and live freely.
